Welcome to my reading page! This web page is under construction!! Please be patient...
Hello! My name is Nancy Bresnahan, and I have been working as a reading specialist at Navajo for three years. I also help out providing reading support at Independence. Prior to this position, I was a reading support aide at Navajo for one year while I finished my Master's Degree in Reading from Governor's State University.
I also was a classroom teacher for kindergarten, first, and second grades for 14 years. I received my undergraduate degree from Northern Illinois University.
I loved teaching children how to read, so pursuing a Reading Specialist degree was a wonderful experience. I love sharing what I have learned in order to help our students become better, more confident readers.
The Reading Support program here at Navajo was started in order to help struggling readers learn strategies to enable them to read better. Each child's needs are individualized in order to help them reach their full potential as readers.
The program consists of pull-out times, where students leave the regular classroom to receive more intensive instruction in reading strategies, and push-in times where I work within the classroom in conjunction with the classroom teachers to assist students. The students are monitored, and changes are made when necessary. It is extremely gratifying to see a child suddenly begin to enjoy reading when a few strategies are given to them to make reading easier.
If you ever need to contact me, call 708-385-3269 ext. 5206, or you may email me at [email protected]. I will be happy to discuss any concerns you have about your child's reading ability!
